Beenie Man Whips Up Star-Studded 'Tropical Storm'

For his latest album, "Tropical Storm," Jamaican toaster Beenie Man has teamed up with a host of guest artists, including Lil' Kim, So Solid Crew, and dancehall greats Sly & Robbie. Due Aug. 20 via Virgin, the set is led by the single "Feel It Boy," which teams Beenie Man (real name: Moses Davis) with labelmate Janet Jackson and production team the Neptunes (also a Virgin artist under the N*E*R*D moniker).

Co-written with the Neptunes, "Feel It Boy" boasts Beenie Man's legendary microphone skills balanced by Jackson's soulful vocal. Dave Meyers (Kid Rock, Missy Elliot, Creed) directed a supporting video clip featuring both Beenie Man and Jackson on the beaches of Southern California. The track was delivered yesterday (July 2) to radio stations worldwide for airplay consideration.

Other guests who appear on the album include fellow Jamaican dancehall artists Lady Saw and Sean Paul, hip-hop producer Righteous Funk, and reggae producers Dave Kelly (Bounty Killer, Tony Rebel), Tony "CD" Kelly (Buju Banton, Shabba Ranks), and longtime Beenie Man production team the Shocking Vibes Crew.

"Tropical Storm" is the follow-up to Beenie Man's Virgin debut, 2000's "Art and Life," which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums chart and No. 18 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums tally. The album, which has sold 386,000 copies in the U.S, according to Nielsen SoundScan, earned the artist a Grammy for best reggae album.

Beenie Man has European tour dates scheduled through mid-July, including an appearance Friday (July 5) at the Summer Jam Festival in Cologne, Germany. A slate of North American tour dates in support of "Tropical Storm" are expected.

Here are Beenie Man's upcoming tour dates:
