Beenie Man Readying 'Undisputed' New Set

Comments

A new Beenie Man single, "Hmm Hmm," is due to reach U.S. airwaves in late March. The track was produced by Tony Kelly (Sean Paul, Wayne Wonder) and will appear on the reggae artist's new album, "Undisputed," due July 18 via Virgin.

Beenie Man has been recording the album in Jamaica and Miami with Kelly and his brother, Dave Kelly. Hip-hop uber-producer Scott Storch also had a hand in two tracks bound for the set.

Additionally, sources say Beenie Man has logged time with such artists as Akon and Ivy Queen, although it is unknown if their guest appearances will be heard on the finished album.

Last weekend, Beenie Man took a break from recording to travel to London for the grand opening of reggae producer Steve Martin's new Dread Musik Store in the city's Brixton section. His surprise appearance drew a crowd, including a thief who ripped a jewel-encrusted watch from Beenie Man's wrist as he stepped outside to greet fans.

The timepiece, valued anywhere from $150,000 to $180,000 in news reports, was retrieved by people in the crowd, who pursued the man and delivered "a bit of a beating," bystanders told the London Evening Standard. Although the police responded to the scene, no charges were pressed.

Beenie Man's 2004 album, "Back to Basics" (Shocking Vibes/Virgin), debuted at No. 51 on The Billboard 200. The disc included the single "Dude," featuring Ms. Thing, which reached No. 16 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
