Acclaimed alt-country singer/songwriter Bobby Bare Jr. is hoping 11 is his lucky number. Bare's forthcoming album, "The Longest Meow," features 11 songs recorded in 11 hours by 11 people.
Among those 11 are My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, drummer Patrick Hallahan and guitarist Carl Broemel, as well as members of ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail Of Dead and Lambchop.
"Originally, I wanted to do the whole album in an hour," Bare tells Billboard.com. "I've noticed that the shorter I've taken to make records, the better I feel the response to what I was doing was. When I was doing major-label records, we'd do 'em over a month, and take a week just to track. By the end of it, you hate the record.
"When I do it really short like this, I get to listen to my own record and really love it, because I haven't really heard that much," he continues.
The disc is the follow-up to 2004's lauded "From the End of Your Leash," and was produced by Brad Jones, who also adds bass to the disc. It is expected to arrive in late fall via Bloodshot Records.
