Banner, Ghostface Tracks Driving 'Saint's Row'

David Banner's title track and other original songs by Ghostface Killah and Trife Da God, Daz Dillinger and Sy Smith on a pre-order retail DVD are providing a big boost to the highly anticipated "Saints Row" videogame from THQ, worldwide marketing senior VP Bob Aniello confirms.

Also sparking pre-orders for the Aug. 29 release as an Xbox 360 exclusive is a single-player game demo that has produced a record 500,000-plus free downloads on the Xbox Live Marketplace site since Aug. 1.

In addition to Banner's "Saints Row" title theme, the DVD, available from such key game outlets as Best Buy, EB Games and GameStop, has "Man Up" by Ghostface Killah and Trife Da God, "Git Out My Way" by Daz and "Bounce Like My Checks" by Smith. "I'm a real big gamer and I enjoyed being a part in bringing this game to life" Banner tells billboard.com. "In short, 'Saints Row' is the sh*t!"

In addition to the four original tracks, the DVD features the single-player demo, a "making-of" documentary, game trailer, dashboard gamer icons, themes and in-game screenshots.

With more than 140 tracks, the game lets players customize playlists on 13 "radio stations," each with a guest DJ for genres including rock, alternative, classic rock, hip hop, underground hip-hop, reggae, easy listening and classical. The guest DJ list includes David Lawrence, Bubba the Love Sponge, Kat Corbet, Sludge, DJ Irie, Eddie Francis, Liquid Todd and Clinton Sparks.

Other artists with game tracks include Fall Out Boy, Iggy Pop, Jane's Addiction, Three 6 Mafia, Ratt, Black Sheep and Masta Ace.

"The highly successful pre-order DVD and downloadable demo have combined with user-created content on YouTube and numerous underground online sites to drive an unprecedented consumer buzz for 'Saints Row,'" Aniello says. "Our game is taking the open-world genre to a whole new level with unparalleled character customization, detailed graphics, over-the-top gameplay and multiple storylines."
