B.B. King Gets Ready To Roll Into 2000

Although B.B. King recently turned 74, the legendary bluesman is showing no signs of slowing down. Having just completed his annual summer tour, he will join Bo Diddley and Ruth Brown for a concert Monday to honor fellow musician Louis Brown. The event, which will take place at Cleveland's Allen Theatre, will precede King's recorded tribute to Jordan, "Let The Good Times Roll - The Music Of Louis Jordan," which will be released in the U.S. by MCA the following day.

King has also scheduled a free outdoor concert on New Year's Eve on Beale Street in Memphis, the city which launched his performing career over 50 years ago.

King's appearances will not be limited to the live stage, though. On Nov. 3, PBS will air the concert special "In Performance At The White House." The broadcast will arrive on the heels of King's appearance alongside Eric Clapton and Aretha Franklin at the Concert Of The Century, to be held Oct. 23 in Washington, D.C. President and Mrs. Clinton will host the latter affair, a benefit for the VH1 Save The Music campaign.

On Nov. 7, King will star as the fictional Blues Master in CBS' rock 'n' roll miniseries "Shake, Rattle & Roll." The soundtrack from the series will include his rendition of the unreleased Bob Dylan song "Fur Slippers," and will be issued Oct. 26 by MCA. King has previously appeared in such films as "Amazon Women On The Moon" and "Spies Like Us" and on a variety of network TV shows.

In addition, King's Blues Club & Cafe is scheduled to open in New York's Times Square before the end of the year. The club, with existing locations in Memphis and Los Angeles, hosts King's regular performances, as well as offers live blues nightly.
