Austin City Limits Fest Grows

Reunited country act the Mavericks, rising rock group Kings Of Leon, and pseudo-revivalist choir the Polyphonic Spree are among the latest acts confirmed for the second annual Austin City Limits Festival. The Sept. 19-21 event in Austin, Texas' Zilker Park has also added singer/songwriters Caitlin Cary and Tift Merritt to its lineup.

As previously reported, the festival will showcase such acts as R.E.M., Al Green, Lucinda Williams, Ween, Liz Phair, Leftover Salmon, Rosanne Cash, and the Beta Band on multiple stages. So far about 25 acts have been confirmed; more than 100 will comprise the final bill, making it one of the largest major festivals in the U.S. this year.

"We are very excited to be bringing such an eclectic and diverse number of musicians to Zilker Park this year," Charlie Jones, director of events for festival producer Capital Sports & Entertainment, tells Billboard.com.

The full lineup is due to be announced June 12, as are details about single-day tickets and travel packages. Currently, only three-day passes and VIP packages are available via the festival's Web site.

More than 75,000 people attended the inaugural two-day festival in 2002. "The additional day will allow us to showcase more of what has made 'Austin City Limits' a television icon, live music from legendary artists and rising stars from all genres of music," Jones adds, as well as "more than triple the economic impact to the city of Austin."
