Atlanta's Music Midtown Fest Sports Impressive Talent

Bob Dylan, Live, Little Feat, Run D.M.C., Lucinda Williams, the Black Crowes, Ben Harper, Cheap Trick, En Vogue, and the Wallflowers are among the dozens of widely varied acts playing this year's Music Midtown festival in Atlanta. Set for May 4-6 on the streets of the Georgia capital, the event is produced by Alex Cooley and Peter Conlon of Concert Southern/Atlanta Concerts (a division of SFX), and attempts to present something for nearly all musical tastes in a family atmosphere.

Classic rock will be represented by the likes of Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Kansas, Little Feat, Patti Smith, and Dylan, while modern rock will be front and center with such acts as the Offspring, Less Than Jake, the Black Crowes, Fuel, the Cult, Five For Fighting, and Tantric.

R&B and rap are also covered, with Arrested Development, Al Green, and the Sugar Hill Gang lined-up, along with En Vogue and Run D.M.C. Blues artists on the bill include John Hammond's Wicked Grin, Shemekia Copeland, and Marcia Ball. Additional artists will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Covering more than 30 acres, the site of the eighth annual festival stretches from Ralph McGill Boulevard to Pine Street, and from Piedmont Avenue to Bedford Place, encompassing the city's Renaissance Park and Bedford Pines Park.

Along with the multitude of music, the Midtown Music Festival will present the Artist Market & Stage with cultural and performance art, a film festival, and unique vendors; and interactive drum circle dubbed the ThunderDome; and various street performers. A specially constructed KidsTown will incorporate Georgia's Technology Adventure, the Radio Disney stage, Barnes & Noble Storytime, magic shows, arts and crafts, and more.

Tickets go on sale Friday (March 16) at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster outlets and online, through SFX.com, and local ticket outlets. For more information, visit the festival's official Web site.
