Campaign for A Landmine Free World is a program of the Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF), with whom Harris has been involved for several years. She helped launch the concerts in 1997 after visiting Vietnam and Cambodia with VVAF president Bobby Muller.
"The time and commitment that these artists have given to the landmine issue is overwhelming," said Muller. "They've traveled to our rehabilitation clinics around the world to learn more about the landmine crisis, and have met the everyday citizens who live among landmines and whose lives are affected daily by this crisis. Furthermore, they have lent their time and talent to amplify the message and promote public awareness around our issues. They're not giving up on that message, and neither are we, until these inhumane weapons are banned."
Harris will be on hand for additional concerts in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and New York in December. Supporting artists have yet to be announced. The organization plans to take the concert series international in 2002.
