Arcade Fire scores its first No. 1 on Billboard's European Albums chart with "The Suburbs" (Merge/Mercury/Universal), as "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" (Epic/Sony Music Entertainment) by Shakira featuring Freshlyground starts a third week atop European Hot 100 Singles.

Three years ago, Arcade Fire's "Neon Bible" debuted at No. 2 on the pan-European chart, falling away sharply to No. 13 the following week. The new set is the band's first U.K. No. 1 album, selling 61,000 units there in its first week compared to 65,000 for the previous release. "The Suburbs" also debuts at No. 1 in Portugal and Ireland, No. 2 in Spain and Denmark, No. 3 in France and Switzerland, No. 4 in Germany and No. 5 in Holland. It climbs 6-1 and 12-4 in the Belgian regions of Flanders and Wallony respectively.

Eminem's "Recovery" (Interscope/Universal), No. 1 for the last three weeks on European Albums and five in total, slips a place despite spending a sixth consecutive week atop the Swiss chart and climbing 4-2 in Austria, 3-2 in Poland and 7-6 in Denmark. It's down 1-2 in the United Kingdom, 2-3 in Ireland, 3-4 in Holland and 4-5 in Flanders, but holds at No. 3 in Germany.

Lady Gaga's "The Fame" (Interscope/Universal is down 2-3 overall, despite moves of 5-3 in Spain, 6-5 in Austria and 10-9 in Portugal. Also down one place Europe-wide is David Guetta's "One Love" (Virgin/EMI), although it continues at No. 1 in Spain and Hungary and climbs 15-6 in Portugal, 11-7 in Flanders, 9-7 in France, 8-7 in Austria 11-9 in Switzerland

Plan B's "The Defamation of Strickland Banks" (679/Atlantic/Warner Music) climbs back 10-5 in its 17th week on European Albums, holding at No. 3 in the United Kingdom and now adding a No. 7 debut in Germany, where it was released July 30.

Unheilig's "Grosse Freiheit" (Universal) is down 5-6 overall, despite continuing at No. 1 in Germany, where it stays ahead of fellow rock favorite Blind Guardian's new entry in runner-up spot, "At The Edge of Time" (Nuclear Blast/Warner Music). That's good for a No. 7 debut on the composite chart, also helped by a No. 9 start in Austria.

Muse's "The Resistance" (Helium 3/Warner Music) is up 9-8, thanks chiefly to its consistent sales in France, where it's at No. 2 again. Sting's "Symphonicities" (Deutsche Grammophon/Universal) is down to No. 9 after two weeks at No. 6, continuing at No. 1 in Poland and arriving at No. 10 in Hungary, but falling 1-2 in Portugal. Closing the pan-European top ten, Kylie Minogue's "Aphrodite" (Parlophone/EMI) falls 7-10, holding at No. 17 in Portugal but sliding 8-14 in the United Kingdom.

The Shakira single retains three European No. 1 berths, in France, Italy and Spain. It's down 1-2 in Denmark, but stays at No.2 in Germany, Switzerland and Wallony. "We Speak No Americano" (Sweat It Out/All Around the World/UMTV/Universal) by Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup holds at No. 2 on European Hot 100 Singles and Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" at No. 3.
