Another Cherry Eyes Global Fame

Comments

Eagle-Eye Cherry, the Brooklyn, N.Y.-bred son of the late jazz trumpeter Don Cherry and brother of singer Neneh Cherry, is hoping to become an international name. His debut set, "Desireless," was released last year on Sweden's Superstudio Blå/Diesel Music and recently nabbed three Swedish Grammi Awards. Now, Billboard Nordic bureau chief Kai Lofthus reports that Sony's Work Group has licensed the catchy blues/R&B-infused album and plans to release it in the U.S. and Canada this summer. Polydor is handling the record in the rest of the world outside the Nordic countries, where it is marketed by BMG. This month, Eagle-Eye embarks on a U.K. tour supporting China/Warner act Morcheeba.
