Another Bedingfield Leads U.K. Charts

Natasha Bedingfield, the 22-year-old sister of British hitmaker Daniel Bedingfield, scored her first U.K. No. 1 single yesterday (Aug. 22) as "These Words" (Phonogenic/BMG) debuted at the top.

It is the first time in British chart history that a brother and sister have scored separate U.K. No. 1 singles; Daniel hit the top with "Gotta Get Thru This" in 2001, "If You're Not the One" in 2002 and "Never Gonna Leave Your Side" last year. "These Words" is the follow-up to Natasha's debut hit "Single," which reached No. 3 in May.

Last week's best-selling single, 3 Of A Kind's "Baby Cakes" (Relentless/Virgin), fell to No. 2, as Welsh hip-hop act Goldie Lookin' Chain entered at No. 3 with "Guns Don't Kill People Rappers Do" (Atlantic). Club crossover "Put 'Em High" (Hed Kandi) by Stonebridge featuring Therese entered at No. 6.

British rock band Keane scored another hit from its album "Hopes and Fears" as the ballad "Bedshaped" (Universal Island) arrived at No. 10. "Hopes and Fears" enjoyed a corresponding 3-2 rebound on the U.K. album chart.

London native Kristian Leontiou entered the singles tally at No. 13 with "Shining" (Polydor), the follow-up to his No. 9 in June, "Story of My Life," while his album "Some Day Soon" re-entered at No. 20. Franz Ferdinand's new version of "Michael" from its self-titled Domino album bowed at No. 17.

In a triumphant week for BMG, Maroon 5's "Songs About Jane" (J) moved to No. 1 for the first time in its 28th week on the album chart. The highest new entry was "The Platinum Collection," a new triple-CD set of Frank Sinatra's Capitol recordings, which entered at No. 11.

On the European Top 100 Albums chart, "Anastacia" (Epic) underlines its status as one of the most enduring European sellers of 2004, climbing 2-1 in its 20th week, while O-Zone's "Dragostea Din Tei" (Media Services/Time/Vale) is No. 1 for a 10th week on the Eurochart Hot 100 Singles roundup.
