Adele to Have Vocal Cord Surgery, Cancels 2011 Tour Dates

Time to get Hooked, our bite-sized roundup of fashion-drenched music news. Today we've got Adele getting respect from Cosmo, JT getting offered another movie role and Nicole Scherzinger talking about her overdue album on the cover of Vegas.

Adele has now undergone surgery to stop a recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage that forced the singer to cancel her U.S. and U.K. tour dates throughout October and November. Her doctor "expects Adele to make a full recovery from her laser microsurgery."

According to a statement from Massachusetts General Hospital -- where Adele underwent the surgery with Dr. Zeiteis, who performed a similar procedure on Aerosmith's Steven Tyler -- her "condition is typically the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture."

The statement continues: "Based on the advice of her doctor and voice therapist in the United Kingdom, Adele came to Boston to consult and undergo corrective voice surgery with Dr. Zeitels, the Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Voice Center. Dr. Zeitels, who is also the Eugene B. Casey Professor of Laryngeal Surgery at Harvard Medical School, has pioneered many vocal cord surgical procedures including the use of specialized lasers to stop vocal cord bleeding in singers. He has performed this unique procedure for many vocalists including Steven Tyler, allowing him to return to full performance."

"Doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments," read a statement from Adele's camp late last month.

Adele's throat problems have plagued her throughout her year in the spotlight. On October 7, Adele was set to kick off a string of U.S. tour dates -- rescheduled from a June bout of laryngitis -- but announced that she would be unable to perform due to the vocal cord hemorrhage.
