Adam Ant Arrested In London

Adam Ant, whose self-styled "Ant Music" made him an international star in the 1980s, was arrested after an alleged incident in a London pub on Saturday night and has been charged with assault and possession of a firearm. Ant, 47, whose real name is Stuart Goddard, also faces charges of criminal damage and actual bodily harm after the alleged fracas in the Primrose Hill area of northwest London, and is due to appear in court on Friday (Jan. 18).

"Adam was not carrying a real gun but a replica and the charges hereby laid are not as severe [as] they seem," reads a statement attributed to Ant and posted on the Web site adam-ant.net. "Nor was his intent to purposely harm another individual."

Ant now lives in his native London after being based in California for many years, where he pursued an acting career. Beginning in April, he is due to appear on the "Here and Now" U.K. arena tour, the second extravaganza mounted by Tony Denton Promotions featuring big stars of the 1980s. Ant is to be featured along with Belinda Carlisle, ABC, Howard Jones, Toyah, China Crisis, and Hadley, Norman & Keeble, formerly of Spandau Ballet

The first tour featured such stars as Kim Wilde, Paul Young, Nick Heyward, Heaven 17, and Curiosity Killed The Cat.
