Actor Jeff Bridges, Michael McDonald Form Label

Actor Jeff Bridges, Doobie Brothers vocalist Michael McDonald, and producer Chris Pelonis have formed a new label, Ramp Records. The imprint will launch Feb. 21 with two releases: "Blue Obsession," McDonald's first solo album in seven years; and "Be Here Soon," Bridges' first-ever recording.

McDonald's album, which was originally scheduled for release by Reprise, includes covers of Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar" and Neil Young's "Down By The River." Bridges wrote six of the nine songs on "Be Here Soon."

In related news, McDonald will be honored with a Yamaha Lifetime Achievement In Musical Excellence Award at a concert presented by NAMM, the National Association of Music Merchants, to be held Feb. 4 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The event, which will be hosted by Bridges, will feature live performances by the Doobie Brothers, Steve Winwood, James Ingram, and Ray Charles, among others.
