Aaliyah Tops BET Awards Nominations

Late singer/actress Aaliyah leads the field for the second annual BET Awards with a total of four nominations. Tied with three nods apiece are B2K and Alicia Keys, while rapper Ja Rule has two. Along with best female R&B artist, Aaliyah is up for best video and the viewer's choice award for the single "Rock the Boat," as well as best actress for her role in "The Queen of the Damned."

B2K and Keys will go head-to-head in the best new artist category, which also includes Craig David, Tweet, and Ashanti, whose eponymous debut broke The Billboard 200 record for first-week sales for a female solo artist's first album in the Nielsen SoundScan era.

This year's special honorees are lifetime achievement award winner Earth, Wind & Fire and humanitarian award winner Muhammad Ali. The BET Awards honor musicians, actors, and athletes.

Hosted by Steve Harvey and Cedric "The Entertainer," the June 25 ceremony will be broadcast live from Los Angeles' Kodak Theatre beginning at 9 p.m. ET (rebroadcast at 9 p.m. PT).
