The concept for the album, says Wonder, came to him years ago and was inspired by his Uncle Fred's music collection. "I remembered all of those records he had when I was a kid," he says. "I went downstairs and the first record I pulled out of the crate was Jerry Butler's 'Dream Merchant.' I thought the title was so fly that I decided to do a compilation album with me doing all the beats and cats I knew that rhymed."
9th Wonder has previously worked with artists such as Jay-Z, Destiny's Child, Mary J. Blige and De La Soul.
