A popular presence in the indie soul movement, singer/songwriter/pianist PJ Morton shines brighter than ever on his fifth album, "Walk Alone." What first catches you on this tight, 10-song set are its vibrant, soulful pop melodies, accented with just the right amount of sax, trumpet and strings. The other half of Morton's satisfying one-two punch is tied to his personal--yet always relatable--lyrics that color in his life story about romance, relationships and the trials and tribulations of being a preacher's kid. Tying the whole package together: his sonorous tenor. Album highlights include the reggae-infused "Love You More" featuring Tweet, Morton's moving talk/sing approach on the song "Son of a Preacherman" and R&B gems "Don't Ever Leave" and "I Need Your Love." Morton (who has written for Erykah Badu and India.Arie) accomplishes a rare contemporary feat these days on "Walk Alone"--a seamless album without one skip-worthy track.
