Paul Oakenfold, "Perfecto: Vegas"

by Lara Marsman  |   August 11, 2009 1:28 EDT

U.K. electronic music artist Paul Oakenfold sticks to his trance-loving roots on his latest DJ companion disc, Perfecto: Vegas," which features 21 hand-selected tracks. The double-disc set displays Oakenfold's skills as an electronic act and is a perfect example of why such artists as Madonna and U2 have asked him to open dates on their tours. "Perfecto: Vegas" is a companion to Oakenfold's weekly residency at the Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, where his sets shy away from the mainstream electronic music heard in many of today's clubs and focus on a more nostalgic, scene-inspired sound. The first disc features Hibernate's "Left Alone" and the Fraction's "Awaken -- both tracks are laced with smooth groves and lush female vocals. Remixes of 1980s dance diva Shannon's "Let the Music Play" and Jan Johnston's remake of Tasmin Archer's "Sleeping Satellite" accurately convey Oakenfold's eclectic taste in tunes. "Perfecto: Vegas" sustains his world-renowned status in the electronic genre. --Lara Marsman
