Fabolous Featuring The-Dream, "Throw It In The Bag"

by Jesse Serwer  |   August 14, 2009 4:51 EDT

There's an emerging formula for scoring the ubiquitous hip-hop summer anthem: include a cue for an easily repeatable signature motion (not to be confused with an actual dance.) Fat Joe's Terror Squad arguably started the trend in 2004 with their self-explanatory "Lean Back." 2006 saw the simulated jumpshot become a dancefloor and sportsgame staple thanks to Jim Jones' "We Fly High" (a.k.a. "Ballin'") while Maino's "Hi Hater" had even the meanest of men waving their hands a year ago, provided it was in the direction of a would-be foe. Fabolous and The-Dream's breezy "Throw It In The Bag" revolves around an invitation to subsidize a female companion's shopping habit but it finds its soul when, mid-song, a suddenly group-minded Fab exhorts, "Everybody do the throw it in the bag!" This breakdown adds some sublime variety to a song that was otherwise teetering on the precipice of being obnoxiously repetitive. --Jesse Serwer
