At the after-Disney intersection, singer Ashley Tisdale has apparently chosen the sexy pop star path. The result, however, is a squeaky-clean preteen darling who is trying to be bad. On Tisdale's sophomore effort, "Guilty Pleasure," she uses the word "mess" so often (she's a hot mess; she wants you to mess up her hair; you like her best when she's a mess) that the vision of her "High School Musical" character -- the manicured drama club diva Sharpay Evans -- should be very far away. Instead, the majority of the new album feels like a Sharpay performance. Power ballad "What If" reveals that Tisdale can deliver the radio-ready goods, and "Tell Me Lies" is convincingly spunky. But the rest of the material, as racy as it sometimes is, doesn't give the singer room to comfortably let loose. "Underneath it all I was craving to be wild," she confesses on album opener "Acting Out" - this set makes that line difficult to believe. --Kerri Mason
