Mark McGrath, lead singer of Sugar Ray and former host of celebrity news show "Extra," has often employed an old political tactic in his career: set expectations low so success seems all the sweeter. The self-deprecating attitude served him and his band well - he joked about his looks, voice, penis size and fleeting fame (one album was called "14:59") while the band's steady stream of reggae-tinged mid-1990s radio hits -- including the ubiquitous "Fly" - sold more than 5 million records  and made McGrath a star. Now, whether you're ready or not, the band is back with "Music For Cougars," its first album of new material is more than five years.

On the eve of  the release of "Cougars," McGrath dropped by Billboard.com's studio to talk about the "misconeption that we're doing this [album] for the money," how the band is "psychotic Weezer fans," and why Sugar Ray is "so not cool" that they just might be despite what McGrath calls his "douchebag status."
