As soon as Sean Kingston came up with the hook to "Fire Burning," he knew he had a hit. "I started humming the melodies to [producer RedOne]," he tells Billboard.com in a video interview at our studios. "I was like 'Fire burning on the dance floor,' and it just kept on going and going. It was catchy and everybody loved it in the studio, so I was like, 'Ok, that's it.' "
Another new track, a collaboration with Lil Wayne called "I'm At War," has been "killing the Internet" Kingston says. "He was in Miami. I was in Miami. I called him and said, "Yo, I need you on this record. I need you on this record.... He was so cool about it."
Kingston, of course, is no stranger to hits. His 2007 breakout single "Beautiful Girls" jumped to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in just four weeks, the fastest climb by a new male artist since 1999. It eventually reached No. 1. With "Fire Burning" also reaching No. 5 on the Hot 100 and a second single on the way, things are looking good for the Jamaican singer's sophomore album "Tomorrow," dropping Sept. 22 on Epic.
"I'm more mature now," says 19-year-old Kingston. "I know which direction I want to go, what songs I want to right about, and I just know who I am. "The whole album, I'm 100% happy with."
