"When I found out I cried," says singer/songwriter Melanie Fiona about when she heard she'd been nominated for a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. "I instantly went back to that moment when I was a little girl, singing in my room -- when I was singing for just the love of music. Feeling like the committee and the world recognizes me as a Grammy nomination-worthy artist because of my vocal ability is one of the highest honors a vocalist can receive."

"It Kills Me," the second single off her debut SRC/Universal Motown album "The Bridge" is what garnered her the nomination; the Jay Fenix-produced, Andrea Martin-penned track has held the No.1 spot of the R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart for five weeks now. "I've already exceeded what I could've dreamed of accomplishing at this point. Now, I don't know what to think," admits Fiona, "I believe one day I'll be Grammy worthy. Do I know if it's this year? I have no idea. Do I hope it's this year? Sure!"

The Toronto-born singer is up against Beyoncé, Lalah Hathaway, Jazmine Sullivan and Ledisi. "The best of the best in R&B right now, so it's an honor," she says.

While Fiona plans on letting "It Kills Me" ride the wave of success for a while longer, she does plan to release another single soon. She will also be touring with Alicia Keys in the spring. "I have so much inspiration to draw from now that I can take what I've learned and all my inspiration and all my experiences and put that into new stories and go in whatever direction I want to go," she gushes. "The sky's the limit now."
