The fourth album is the charm for the Lost Trailers.
After making the rounds on various labels, the contemporary country band has finally scored a direct hit with its self-titled BNA Records debut. Last week, the album entered the Top Heatseekers chart at No. 16.
The Atlanta-based band got its first big break more than six years ago when Willie Nelson handpicked them to perform at his annual 4th of July Picnic festival. Since then it has been a long, challenging road for the Trailers. But bandmates Ryder Lee (vocals/keyboard), Stokes Nielson (vocals/guitar), Jeff Potter (drums), Andrew "Mule" Nielson (bass) and Manny Medina (guitar) stuck together through thick and thin.
"We're five different people, but when we come together, we're one," says Stokes Nielson in the band's official online bio. "Going through hard times together helped us find out who we are and what we do best."
Adds Lee, "We love to bring people together for a good time. But we also know what it's like to be down. Our music is about hanging in there and always looking up because there's redemption in the end."
That positive attitude can be found throughout their music. Produced by Blake Chancey (Dixie Chicks, Montgomery Gentry), the album is a contemporary mix of Americana, roots and straight-forward country music tracks. It's chock-full of compelling stories, fun-loving party anthems and sharp musicianship.
"As soon as we started working on this new material, all of us knew this was it. We'd found ourselves and our sound," says Lee. "We'd taken a creative leap forward, and everything was coming together like never before. We've never had a self-titled album, and I'm glad this is it because it's our defining sound."
While struggling to find that sound, the band built a rabid following on the road. That "road dog" mentality is what kept them afloat in the industry for all these years.
"We're all about having a blast and letting loose," says Lee. "You put us in front of a crowd, and we'll win them over. The stage is pure adrenaline for us."
Adds Stokes Nielson, "We see the response we get every time we play, and how strongly people react to us. We've always just needed one good chance to show the rest of the world what we could do. This is our chance."
