Imogen Heap

No one sounds quite like Imogen Heap, and no one tells stories like her, either. The U.K. artist got intimate with Billboard.com while discussing her third album of ethereal electro-pop, "Ellipse," due Aug. 25.

"This is the first record where I haven't had a boyfriend," says Heap, who turned to Twitter for feedback on the new songs. "It was really lovely to Tweet, 'I've been doing this in the studio, and here's a little bit,'" she says. "I can get this instant reaction which is just like a mate going, 'Yeah, yeah, it sounds brilliant!"

Heap also revealed the inspiration behind her new single "First Train Home" and the sounds of her family house that pop up throughout "Ellipse," from a boiler heating up to a leaky kitchen faucet.

Watch our two-part interview where Heap shares details on her DIY recording process, a beatboxer who caught her eye on YouTube, and her favorite iPhone app.
