1000 No. 1s Video Series Day 23:
T.I. Talks About Topping the Hot 100


2011 was the year that Billboard celebrated the 1000th No. 1 song on the Hot 100. As we look back on this year in music, we're celebrating that milestone with a month-long series of videos --- one for each day of December -- chatting with 31 of the hitmakers who rocketed to the top of the chart since its inception in 1958. On day 23 of our 1,000 Hot No. 1s video series, we move from yesterday's pair of Maroon 5 charttoppers -- "Makes Me Wonder" and "Moves Like Jagger" -- to true hip-hop hits as we chat with T.I. about his No. 1s, "Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life." "As I've learned, most times in this industry the things that scare the sh*t out of you, that's probably the direction you need to be heading, " T.I. says of embracing the uniqueness of "Whatever," which ruled the top for a staggering seven (non-consecutive) weeks beginning Sept. 6, 2008.

 

 

Just a month after "Whatever" first hit No. 1, the rapper (with some help from Rihanna) replaced himself (!) at the top on Oct. 18, 2008 with the song "Live Your Life." "My good buddy Just Blaze
