1000 No. 1s Video Series Day 11:
John Waite Talks About Topping the Hot 100

2011 was the year that Billboard celebrated the 1000th No. 1 song on the Hot 100. As we look back on this year in music, we're celebrating that milestone with a month-long series of videos --- one for each day of December -- chatting with 31 of the hitmakers who rocketed to the top of the chart since its inception in 1958. SEE THE FULL CHART HERE.

On day 11 of our 1,000 Hot No. 1s video series, we move from yesterday's 2010 radio jam -- Taio Cruz's "Break Your Heart" -- to a classic 80s power ballad as we chat with John Waite about his No. 1, "Missing You." "Being No. 1 is something that nobody can prepare you for," Waite tells Billboard.com. "I had a complete blast because I'd spent the previous two years living in New York City in a tiny studio apartment. . . So my fondest memory of being No. 1, when I wasn't hungover -- because there was a lot of partying -- was being in New York City on the upper West side and the people that I loved and that took me in when I had nothing saying to me how proud they were of what I'd done."

English singer Waite's "Missing You," which reached No. 1 on Sept. 22, 1984, has the distinction of replacing Tina Turner's huge hit, "What's Love Got To Do With It?" in the top slot. "Missing You" helped propel Waite's 1984 album, "No Brakes," into the top 10 of the Billboard 200.

Be sure to come back tomorrow (Dec. 12) for the next 1000 No. 1s video: Nelly talks about his No. 1, "Dilemma," which featured Kelly Rowland.
