Pearl Jam, MMJ, Aretha Head To 2010 New Orleans Jazz Fest

Pearl Jam, Aretha Franklin and, making its first appearance since February 2009, My Morning Jacket, are among the acts set for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, to take place the weekends of April 23-25 and April 29-30/May 1-2 at Fair Grounds Race Course.

Other artists confirmed for opening weekend include Lionel Richie, the Allman Brothers Band, Anita Baker, Dr. John, the Black Crowes, Band Of Horses, the Levon Helm Band, George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, the Funky Meters and Irma Thomas in a tribute to Mahalia Jackson.

Pearl Jam's first confirmed North American show of 2010 will take place on a day to be announced during the second weekend. Also on tap for that portion of the event are Van Morrison, Widespread Panic, theNeville Brothers, B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Elvis Costello and the Sugarcanes, Allen Toussaint and Gov't Mule.

The overall bill will be rounded out by Darius Rucker, Steel Pulse, Baaba Maal, King Sunny Ade, Elvin Bishop, the Blind Boys Of Alabama, the Gipsy Kings, the Dead Weather, the Wayne Shorter Quartet, Galactic and Average White Band.

As always, Jazz Fest will boast scores of local live acts as well as food and crafts.

The 2009 edition of Jazz Fest drew more than 400,000 fans, up from the approximately 375,000 reported the previous year by festival producers. Bon Jovi made its first appearance at the event on May 2.
