Maroon 5 has announced a second leg of its North American tour, this one coming after the Sept. 21 release of the group's third album, the Mutt Lange-produced "Hands All Over."

The quintet's latest set of dates commence Oct. 2 in Denver and wrap up Oct. 29 in Mahnomen, Minn. OneRepublic will open all of the shows, while V.V. Brown and Ry Cumming, who are both on parts of the previously announced July 30-Aug. 29 leg, will split duties during the run.

Keyboardist Jesse Carmichael tells Billboard.com that this is only the beginning of what's expected to be extensive road work to support "Hands All Over."

"As far as I know, the next two years are already pretty much booked -- around the world, several times," Carmichael says, adding that, "I'm in a totally different mindset than I've ever had before. It's much more optimistic, easygoing, just going with the flow. We've been doing this for so long now I think it's finally really kicked in for me to the point where it really doesn't matter where I sleep at night or where we are in the world. I'm going to feel at home."

Carmichael says the quintet is "doing a lot of rehearsals these days, trying to put together new musical moments for the tour, new transitions, new cover songs, maybe different arrangements of older songs -- just really trying to give people a new, exciting experience, especially for people who have seen us a lot in the last eight years." The keyboardist is also "very excited about the look of the tour," though he's staying mum on details. "It's something new," he says, though pyrotechnics aren't a part of the plan. "I think we're going to focus on the creation of things rather than the destruction of them."

Maroon 5 is currently determining what songs from "Hands All Over" will be played live during the summer leg of the tour, prior to the album's release. The first single, "Misery" -- which frontman Adam Levine calls "the most Maroon 5-sounding song on the album" -- is just out and a likely candidate for the repertoire. Levine predicts that the group will ready "a nice handful to plug in the set," but Carmichael says he'd prefer to keep them to a minimum.

"I really like people to have had a chance to hear them before they hear them live, 'cause I just feel you can connect more," he explains. "Even my favorite bands, when I go to see them, like when Radiohead plays new songs I've never heard before, it's a little hard to hear exactly what's going on in a live setting. So I prefer for people to have heard the recordings first."
