Metallica

This week's No. 1 Hot Tour is Metallica with over $5.4 million in gross sales from two venues in Argentina during the second Latin American leg of the World Magnetic Tour.  Playing two concerts (Jan. 21-22) at River Plate, a 66,000-seat outdoor soccer stadium in Buenos Aires, the band drew 94,331 fans with ticket sales surpassing 18.3 million pesos ($4.8 million US).  The veteran rockers also performed one show at Ofreo Superdomo (Jan. 24) in Córdoba, Argentina's second-largest city.  The arena show grossed 2.2 million pesos ($580,374 US) with attendance at 9,682.  Latin American live entertainment company T4F promoted both events.

Legendary rock artist Eric Clapton lands on the Hot Tours list twice this week, ranking No. 2 as a co-headliner with Jeff Beck and No. 7 based on two dates from his current U.S. tour with Roger Daltrey providing support.  Clapton and Beck collaborated for a handful of shows during February in four cities: London, New York, Toronto and Montreal.  The $5.2 million in grosses come from London's O2 Arena (Feb. 13-14) and Bell Centre in Montreal (Feb. 22).  Both artists were guitarists at different times with the 1960's English band The Yardbirds but this string of concerts, following a Tokyo event back in 2009, is their first major concert collaboration together.

Clapton's No. 7 ranking comes from two dates on his current U.S. tour that began in late-February and continues through mid-March.  Arenas in Pittsburgh (Mellon Arena, Feb. 25) and Nashville (Bridgestone Arena, Feb. 27) brought in a combined gross just over $2 million from sold out shows in both markets.  Roger Daltrey was the opener for both of these performances and remains on the tour for all the March dates.  Clapton will be on the road again in Europe during May and June with Steve Winwood in the support slot.
