Kenny Chesney has begun his Goin' Coastal Tour after a year off from the live stage and takes this week's top Hot Tours ranking based on box office totals reported from the trek's initial five markets.
Opening weekend was in Florida with a March 17 kick off performance outdoors at Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach. Two days later, the country superstar played his first stadium date of the year drawing a sellout crowd to Tampa's Raymond James Stadium joined by the Zac Brown Band, Billy Currington and Uncle Kracker on the bill. Attendance was 50,548 with $4.4 million in ticket sales at the Tampa stadium. The next weekend the tour stopped at three arenas in the Midwestern U.S. drawing sellout crowds in each city. First up was Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa with 12,665 in the house for the March 24 performance. The next evening, Chesney played to 15,324 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., followed by Omaha's Qwest Center on March 26 with 14,466 in attendance. Overall gross ticket sales from the first two weeks on the road were $7.8 million with 109,215 tickets sold.
Neil Diamond is No. 2 in the Hot Tours rankings with two dates reported from his brief tour through Australia during March. Promoted by Dainty Consolidated Entertainment and Live Nation, the tour stopped in Melbourne for performances on March 5, 11 & 12 drawing a total of 26,870 fans for all three shows. Following the Melbourne concerts, Diamond made a quick trip to New York City for his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14 and then returned to Australia to continue the tour. Also included in this week's tally is a sold out performance on March 26 at Sydney's Acer Arena with ticket sales of $2.6 million. He also played shows in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth during March as well as two concerts in Auckland, New Zealand at the end of February.
