Welcoming Halloween with a bang last night (Oct. 27), Green Day took the stage at a secret NYC show at the intimate Studio at Webster Hall. The band performed primarily new material and covers -- complete in costume.

Announced less than 24 hours before tickets went on sale (for $20 each, and under the premise of "Halloween costumes encouraged"), the 300 capacity room was immediately sold out. Scalped tickets skyrocketed ( with fans offering up their first born, or a ticket for the "reasonable price" of $200; an acquaintence of mine somehow came upon a set of tickets and sold them for $400 a pop.)

According to the Village Voice, the show kicked off with a "Basket Case" version of "Monster Mash," before blasting into a set of primarily new material (interestingly tinged with Pulp's "Common People"). The costumed trio also covered Elvis' "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and the Misfit's "Hybrid Moments" -- performed to perfection three separate times for filming purposes (for Green Day's in-progress documentary ). Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong performed as Jack Skellington from "Nightmare Before Christmas," bassist Mike Dirnt donned zombie make-up, and drummer Tre Cool sported a pink fairy ensemble.

The new material consisted of songs from the band's forthcoming (and currently incomplete) album, with the titles of "Make Out Party" and "Let Yourself Go," juxtaposed with old fan favorites like "Hitchin' a Ride," and "Geek Stink Breath."

The show concluded where it began -- with a cover of "Monster Mash" -- this time joined with backing vocalists Rebecca Naomi Jones and Alysha Umphree of the "American Idiot" Broadway production.
