Comments

by Billboard Staff  |   January 31, 2010 11:44 EST

Thousands of you voted on who should win the big 2010 Grammys, we weighed in with our predictions too... But Grammy night never turns out exactly how anyone expects it to. Here's how it all turned out.

Record of the Year

Winner: "Use Somebody" - Kings Of Leon

We Predicted: "Poker Face" - Lady Gaga
We thought la Gaga had this category sewn up (and our readers did too), but NARAS gave the Record of the Year love to rock n roll this year, and the sweeping, brooding choruses and riffs of the Followill boys won out.

Album of the Year

Winner: Fearless - Taylor Swift

We Predicted: Fearless - Taylor Swift
We felt that Taylor's "Fearless" would grab the big win because it "embodies both Swift's sheer talent and massive popularity." It's chart achievements didn't hurt either. Not only has "Fearless" spent 62 weeks on the Billboard 200, including 11 weeks at No. 1, but it also launched eight songs that reached the top 20 of the Hot 100.

Song of the Year

Winner:  "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" - Beyonce

We Predicted: "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" - Beyonce
We knew Beyonce would walk away with this trophy, which we called "a singular musical treasure," not just because it was a No. 1 Hot 100 smash but because B's dance moves inspired a legion of homemade imitations and parodies. Billboard.com voters agreed in droves.

Best New Artist

Winner: Zac Brown Band

We Predicted: Zac Brown Band
We guessed that this Atlanta band had a great chance at the Best New Artist title because they "broke out in a big way last year with a No. 1 country song ('Toes') and two more singles -- 'Chicken Fried' and 'Whatever It Is' -- reaching No. 2," but what cinched the win in our minds was the fact that Brown and company have also sold over twice as many copies of their last album than any of their fellow nominees, "an achievement that doesn't go unrecognized by NARAS voters."
