On "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" last night (Dec. 10), Paul McCartney made an appearance to sing an early version of "Yesterday" with Fallon himself, as well as "Here Today," a fitting tribute to John Lennon 30 years after his death.

The now-legendary story behind "Yesterday," and its early version called "Scrambled Eggs," was that the chorus was written using the first words that came to McCartney's mind  -- "scrambled eggs."

Continuing in the tradition of legendary rockers on Fallon stage, McCartney joined the host and sang an even more food-centric version of the original, changing including food groups to adhere to his vegetarian lifestyle.

Also discussed during the show, was The Beatles' historic 1964 performance on the "Ed Sullivan Show," which started Beatlemania all around America.

"The Ed Sullivan Show was pretty amazing," McCartney said. "I mean, that was... I was standing there waiting to go on, going to do 'Yesterday' with a string quartet, and the guy who holds the curtains says, 'Are you nervous?' I say, 'No,' and he says, 'You should be.' "

Before playing "Here Today" in honor of the 30th Anniversary of Lennon's death just one day earlier), McCartney said, "If you want to say to someone you love them, tell them now, 'cause, you know, there may come a point when it's too late, and you think, 'I wish I'd said that.' "
