Ke$ha on 'SNL': Glow-in-the-Dark Paint, Astronauts & Lasers, Oh My

Ke$ha performs

Ke$ha stopped by a Ryan Phillippe-hosted episode of "SNL" this weekend to perform her current hit, "Your Love Is My Drug" and her No. 1 debut single from back in January, "TiK ToK." Unfortunately, the results were more confusing than impressive.

The "Animal" of a pop sensation closed "SNL" with a glow-in-the-dark version of "Your Love Is My Drug," currently No. 19 on the Billboard 200 and climbing. Judging by recent stills that leaked online, the number was inspired by Ke$ha's soon-to-debut music video for "Drug," which itself takes a cue from Busta Rhymes' 1997 hit, "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See." Trading in her usual glittery getups for tribal-inspired neon body paint and feathers, Ke$ha prowled the blackened stage and showed off her singing -- which was little pitchy, as Randy Jackson might say -- then asked the studio audience, "Do you wanna make out?" (Crickets.)

Earlier, the wild child kicked off "TiK ToK" with a slowed down and reverb-heavy version of the song's bridge, and when the beat finally kicked in, Ke$ha -- donning a shiny catsuit and U.S. flag-embroidered cape -- did the robot while surrounded by Daft Punk-style astronauts. "Did anyone ever think, 'Maybe we're the aliens?'" Ke$ha wondered aloud, as she played around with green lazers that weren't nearly as cool as Adam Lambert's. The performance ended with hoards of glitter falling from the ceiling, but that party trick almost seemed quaint in the midst of all the extra-terresterials, sci-fi effects and confusion.
