Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper Spread AIDS Awareness On 'GMA'

Lady Gaga Cyndi Lauper

Cross-generational eccentric pop divas Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper sat side by side on ABC's "Good Morning America" Wednesday to talk about a major women's health issue as the new faces of an AIDS awareness campaign. Recognizing that women are at a greater risk for contracting HIV/AIDS, Gaga and Lauper promoted their own Viva Glam lipsticks for MAC cosmetics, with proceeds benefiting women with the disease.

As they spoke about their mutual respect for one another, even Gaga admitted that she felt slightly humbled to be sitting beside Lauper. "It's easy for us to work together, Gaga said. "We have a lot in common. Cyndi and I have talked about how, for me growing up, my mother was the one who taught me about makeup, and watching her do her makeup in the morning was a very special moment for us. I'm hoping, and Cyndi's hoping, that mothers and sisters and best friends buy each other a lipstick and say, 'This lipstick represents you protecting yourself, having safe sex, and remembering to have loving, mongomaous relatipnships to protect you and those around you.'"

"She's such a good kid," Lauper said of Gaga. "It's your time, it's time to be really creative -- don't listen if somebody says, 'You can't do that.' There's no you can't...just do it."

After some pleasant banter, the two got down to business, stressing that the current level of HIV/AIDS awareness is still dangerously low. Supporting the cause is easy enough, they said; all one has to do is purchase a Viva Glam lipstick for women they care about as a reminder to practice safe sex, and to celebrate beauty while they're at it.
