Janelle Monae Shows Off Fancy Footwork In 'Tightrope' Video

Janelle Monae's

Janelle Monáe's "Tightrope" video takes place in "The Palace of the Dogs" -- an asylum where "dancing has long been forbidden for its subversive effects on the residents and its tendency to illegal magical practices." But that doesn't stop Monáe and her giant mushroom of hair from grooving behind the backs of the asylum's faceless hall monitors.

The Diddy co-signed alt-soul singer and her tuxedo-clad friends twist and glide through the halls and on top of tables, and basically, it looks like the most fun time ever. Using his Sir Luscious Leftfoot alias, rapper Big Boi makes an appearance as a rogue music teacher, but the party takes a turn for the abstract when the nurse rats them out. Monáe disappears through a wall into a forest where she glimpses the sun (and perhaps freedom), but the hall monitors follow her and bring her back. They escort her to her room, presumably to think about what she's done, and we're left to wonder who exactly is the the man in the top hat who nods at Monáe toward the end. Sequel, please!
