Virtually unknown L.A. band Forster the People becomes one of the most successful business stories in recent memory with big synths, a kick-ass fan database, and a focused organization.

Foster the People, aided by the suddenly-in-demand-again Kenny G, rocked Studio 8H as the muscial guest on "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend (Oct. 8).

 

Foster the People: How a Free Download Begat a Business

 

The indie-pop group played two singles off "Torches," its debut album: "Pumped Up Kicks," currently at No. 3 on the Hot 100, and "Houdini," to which Kenny G contributed his signature soprano sax stylings.

 

Lead singer Mark Foster added some extra synth to the mix, along with some quirky dance moves. Watch below.
