Everybody hurts over the recent R.E.M. breakup -- including Coldplay. Just down the road from the town R.E.M. put on the map, Coldplay gave tribute to the Athens, G.A. rockers in the form of an acoustic "Everybody Hurts" cover that frontman Chris Martin seemed a little nervous about playing. At Atlanta's Music Midtown Festival on Saturday (Sept. 24), Martin prefaced the cover by asking fans to "see it for the gesture rather than the actual sound."

"We're going to maybe shoot ourselves in the foot right now," Martin added. "This week there was some sad news if you're a music fan, especially if you're a music fan from Georgia -- or from England who are big fans of music from Georgia, if you see what I'm saying. One of our favorite bands of all time, for some crazy reason, have finished, and it's sad."

Sad, indeed.
