There are 16 songs and three bonus tracks of tightly wound rhymes and sinewy beats on J. Cole's debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, but the 26-year-old rapper says that the true nature of the album lies in the material that didn't make the final cut.

With his debut album seemingly headed towards a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200, J. Cole is already hard at work -- and, he says, well along -- with its follow-up.
Rapper J. Cole, 26, bows in the No. 1 slot with "Cole World: the Sideline Story," selling 218,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.
J. Cole has made his Roc Nation boss man, Jay-Z, proud. After hearing news that Cole scored the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 chart with "Cole World: the Sideline Story," Jay-Z congratulated the 26 year old rapper.
"J. Cole's success is testament to amazing artist development and Cole's hard work," Jay-Z said, via press release. "I want to congratulate him on a #1 album and more importantly a great body of work."
Cole's first solo album, which he's been meticulously working on for the past five years, has sold 218,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Cole World: the Sideline Story" marks the first time a solo act's debut effort has entered at No. 1 since May 14, 2010.
Mark Pitts, President of Urban Music, Sony / JIVE Records and CEO, Bystorm Entertainment and Cole's manager, lent praise as well, "J Cole personifies humility and grace with edge and depth. As an MC, his point of view speaks to and represents me. I'm proud and blessed to be a part of his journey!"
After hearing the news himself, J. Cole took time to thank his fans and everyone who had a part in the success of "Cole World." "Thank you very much to everybody, to the fans, to all the magazines, blogs, BET, MTV, the label, Roc Nation, Columbia, my management, my DreamVillain team. Number one album in the country, I can't believe it. It doesn't make sense, but it does."
