In this week's Mashup Monday, We Are The Fallen -- the metal-tinged band anchored by former members of Evanescence and American idol finalist Carly Smithson -- set aside the amps and distortion pedals for a keening, acoustic version of U2's classic "With Our Without You."

"Growing up for me, U2 is massive where I'm from," says Dublin-born frontwoman Smithson. "I'm very proud to be Irish and it's a cool thing to [cover U2]... This is the first time I ever sang U2 song in public."

The original song, from U2's ten-times-platinum 1987 album "The Joshua Tree," hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1987, the year Smithson turned four.

But while We Are The Fallen only formed last year, the band already has its own impressive music pedigree. Three-fifths of the group -- Ben Moody, John LeCompt, and Rocky Gray -- were in the Grammy-winning, platinum-selling band Evanescence. Smithson, for her part, made the top ten of "American Idol" season seven in 2008. We Are The Fallen itself has also earned some chart love, right now they're in the top ten of the Hard Rock Albums chart with "Tear Down The World."
