The Ready Set Covers The Wallflowers

"I'm really big into [mixing] things that are kind of dark and lyrically a little really creepy with catchy pop melodies, so that's what drew me into it," says The Ready Set's frontman Jordan Witzigreuter of the band's decision to cover The Wallflowers' hit "One Headlight" in this week's installment of Mashup Mondays.

The organ-fueled rocker "One Headlight," was a centerpiece of Jakob Dylan and the Wallflowers 1996 album, "Bringing Down the Horse," which was not only No. 4 on the Billboard 200 but also a Heatseekers No. 1. The song won the Wallflowers a 1998 Grammy. The Ready Set entered the stage about ten years later, getting its first taste of success when the rock/pop blend on second album, "I'm Alive, I'm Dreaming" helped it climb to No. 3 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart last year.

"I picked 'One Headlight' because I wanted to pick something really distant from what I normally do," Witzigreuter says with a smile.

And what is The Ready Set normally doing right now? New single "Young Forever" has just been released, and the band is playing a pair of shows in Kansas and its native Indiana on July 6 and 7.
