"I didn't want to repeat myself, I didn't think the first album was true artistry," says the star, emphasizing that she paid attention to this record a lot more closely and was much more involved in the writing than with earlier albums. "I wanted to make great songs with great meaning," more of a "grimy sound with a lot of bass, something with a little more depth."
