More important than recording music that impacts Billboard's charts, several star artists have joined the cause to combat hunger.

In time for Thanksgiving, the United States Dept. of Agriculture reports that domestic hunger is at an all-time high, with data showing that 36.2 million Americans go hungry every day.

As they have since 1975, musicians are helping by supporting World Hunger Year (WHY). With a global mission to fight hunger and poverty, WHY again enlisted the aid of radio.

WHY's annual Hungerthon wrapped yesterday (Nov. 24) after four days on a wide range of New York City-area radio stations, as well as AOL Radio and Sirius XM satellite radio, among others.

The drive raised funds by auctioning items donated by musicians, including contributions from Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, James Taylor, ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, Randy Travis and Sting, as well as one-of-a-kind memorabilia including:

Hungerthon launched in 1975 as a partnership between WHY and Infinity Broadcasting and has since expanded to become a New York fall radio tradition among CBS' WCBS AM and FM, WFAN, WINS, WWFS and WXRK, Citadel's WABC and WPLJ, Clear Channel's WAXQ, WHTZ, WKTU, WLTW and WWPR and Emmis' WRXP. AOL Radio, Sirius XM satellite radio and internet-only stations RocklandWorldRadio.com and Kweevak.com also participated this year.
