As Whitney Houston returns to the Billboard 200's top 10 with "Whitney: The Greatest Hits," which re-enters the chart at No. 6 with 64,000 copies sold in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan (in the tracking week that ended Feb. 12, thus reflecting only one full day of sales after her passing), today (Feb. 15) marks a memorable milestone in the late legend's career.

On this date 26 years ago, Houston ascended to the Billboard Hot 100 summit with her second No. 1, "How Will I Know."

The track also reached the Adult Contemporary chart pinnacle on this date in 1986. It would crown R&B/Hip-Hop Songs three weeks later and reach No. 3 on Dance/Club Play Songs.

"Know" became Houston's second of 11 Hot 100 leaders. She and Rihanna trail only Mariah Carey (18) and Madonna (12) for the most No. 1s in the chart's 53-year history.

Following Houston's passing Saturday (Feb. 11), the song enters the Digital Songs chart at No. 46 with 43,000 downloads sold, up from less than 1,000 last week. Between Sunday and yesterday (Feb. 14), "Know" registered 916 plays on a total of 347 U.S. radio stations, according to Nielsen BDS. In the previous full Hot 100 airplay tracking week (Feb. 1-7), the song had received a mere 117 plays on 65 stations.

(Did you "know"? "How Will I Know" was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam. In 1988, the then-husband-and-wife duo, billed as Boy Meets Girl, would climb to No. 5 on the Hot 100 with fellow uptempo pop nugget "Waiting for a Star to Fall").
