Drake Challenges Lil Wayne to Sound Clash

The release of Drake's sophomore album, "Take Care," on Tuesday (Nov. 15) is enough cause for celebration, but the rapper has mapped out how he'd really like to celebrate, and it involves two DJ's, Jamaica, and an on-stage clash with Lil Wayne. In an exclusive interview with Billboard in early October, he sketched his plan.

Drake's 'Take Care' Cruising to 700,000-Plus Debut

It should surprise nobody, but Drake's second full-length studio album, "Take Care," is on its way to a monster debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week.

As earlier reported, Drake's second-full length studio album, "Take Care," is on its way to a big debut on the Billboard 200 chart next week. Industry prognosticators suggest the set may sell around 675,000 to 700,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, Nov. 20. That would easily secure Drake his second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, following last year's "Thank Me Later," which started atop the list with 447,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan.

"Care" may rack up the third-largest sales week of 2011, after Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" debut (1.1 million) and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" start (964,000).

Drake's 'Take Care' Cruising to Big Debut | Track-By-Track Review

On SoundScan's Building chart below -- a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (ending Sunday) as reported by six major merchants, Drake is unsurprisingly sitting in the No. 1 spot. Right behind him is Michael Buble's "Christmas" album, which figures to be a strong seller through the holidays.

Adele's "21" set is at No. 3 on the Building tally, followed by the new "Glee, the Music: The Christmas Album, Volume 2" at No. 4. The latter offering could enter the chart with around 60,000 to 80,000 copies sold. The first "Glee" "Christmas" album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 dated Dec. 4, 2010, with 161,000 sold. It eventually peaked at No. 3 for two non-consecutive weeks. It's currently the second-biggest selling "Glee" album (945,000) behind the first "Glee: Season One: The Music, Volume 1" set (1.2 million).

Justin Bieber's holiday release "Under the Mistletoe" is at No. 5 on the Building chart, with two new sets right behind him: Childish Gambino's "Camp" at No. 6 and the various artists charity compilation "Cities 97 Sampler 23: Live From Studio C" at No. 7.

While Gambino seems to be a lock for a top 10 debut, the "Cities 97" set likely won't make the top 10 on the Billboard 200 next week.

To reach the top 10 next week, an album will have to sell around 60,000 to 70,000 units. However, there were only 33,000 copies of the "Cities 97" available and all of them had sold out by 11:15 AM on Nov. 17 -- the day it was released. (The album was exclusively available at local Target stores.) So, despite its robust sales, 33,000 won't be enough to make the top 10 (but a top 25 arrival is perhaps certain!).

The annual compilation -- produced and released by the Minneapolis radio station KTCZ (also known as Cities 97) since 1989 -- has raised nearly $9 million for local charities. This year, the set features 19 live in-studio performances from Adele ("Someone Like You"), Florence + the Machine ("Dog Days Are Over") and Mumford & Sons ("The Cave") among others.

Last year, the "Cities 97 Sampler 22: Live From Studio C" album sold 33,000 in its first week and debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard 200 dated Dec. 4.

As for the rest of the Building chart's top 10 this week: the "Now 40" compilation is at No. 8, Andrea Bocelli's new "Concerto: One Night in Central Park" is No. 9 and Coldplay's "Mylo Xyloto" holds down the No. 10 slot.
