BOYZ IN A FAMILIAR 'HOOD: Old is new again this week.

Boyz II Men bow at No. 34 on Adult R&B (viewable at billboard.biz) and No. 99 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with "I Can't Make You Love Me." The song had last appeared on a Billboard chart in 1994 when Nancy Wilson's version reached No. 87 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Bonnie Raitt's original reached No. 6 on Adult Contemporary and No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992.

(Trivia: the ballad was co-written by Mike Reid, who, before enjoying success as a songwriter and country recording artist, doled out hits of a different kind: he played defensive tackle for the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals).

"I Can't Make You Love Me" is Boyz II Men's 21st hit on Adult R&B, most among groups in the chart's 16-year history. The trio's new entry is its fifth consecutive charted remake, following "What You Won't Do for Love" (Bobby Caldwell), "You Make Me Feel Brand New" (the Stylistics), "Ribbon in the Sky" (Stevie Wonder) and "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" (the Temptations).

Boyz II Men release their third covers album, "Love," Nov. 24. In addition to classic R&B songs by Sam Cooke, Earth, Wind & Fire and the Spinners, the set, produced by the act with Randy Jackson, will also feature additional updates of songs that were originally hits alongside those by Boyz II Men in the '90s, including Take That's "Back for Good," Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" and Lonestar's "Amazed."

On Country Songs, a former pop/rock smash crosses over, as Bucky Covington arrives at No. 58 with "Gotta Be Somebody." Nickelback's original topped Adult Pop Songs for five weeks beginning in January and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 (No. 10), Alternative Songs (No. 10) and Mainstream Rock (No. 9). The track also peaked in the top 20 on Pop Songs (No. 13) and Adult Contemporary (No. 18).


CAN'T SPELL WHITNEY WITHOUT H-I-T: In addition to Boyz II Men's bow, the Adult R&B chart sports a milestone mark for another format cornerstone.

Whitney Houston enters a four-way tie for most Adult R&B top 10s (13) among women in the chart's history, as "Million Dollar Bill" bounds 13-9. With the advance, Houston equals the chart-best top 10 totals of Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey.

When the Adult R&B tally first appeared in Billboard's pages in the issue dated Sept. 18, 1993, all four artists graced the list. That week, Braxton reigned with "Another Sad Love Song," Carey ranked at No. 7 with "Dreamlover," Houston showed at No. 31 with "Run to You" and Blige occupied the No. 35 slot with "Love No Limit."


MAC ATTACK: Reba McEntire extends her record for most top 10s among women in the almost 66-year history of Country Songs.

"Consider Me Gone" rises 13-10, granting the superstar her 57th top 10. Dolly Parton ranks second among female soloists with 55 top 10s.

"Consider Me Gone" is McEntire's first top 10 title that does not share credit with another performer since her No. 7-peaking "He Gets That From Me" in 2005. Since, McEntire has made trips to No. 2 with Kelly Clarkson ("Because of You," 2007) and as a guest on Brooks & Dunn's "Cowboys Don't Cry" (March).
