Lil Boosie Gets 8 Years in Prison on Drug Charges

Incarcerated rapper Lil Boosie was sentenced to an eight-year hard labor prison term after he plead guilty on Tuesday morning (Nov. 29) to three counts of conspiring to smuggle contraband into two state prisons.
According to Louisiana's WAFB, the 28-year-old Baton Rouge native (real name: Torrance Hatch) had been accused of attempting to smuggle drugs into Dixon Correctional Center as well as Angola State Penitentiary. The rapper is currently serving time on another drug charge related to a 2009 conviction.
Lil Boosie is also awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge stemming from the death of Terry Boyd. The rapper is accused of hiring Michael Louding to kill the 35-year-old Boyd in October 2009, and pleaded not guilty to the charge in June 2010. On Tuesday, Judge Mike Erwin denied a motion to have Louding testify in Hatch's defense, and set an April 30 date for the trial to begin.
Following the sentencing, Lil Boosie requested transfer to a drug rehab. Judge Erwin reportedly said he would recommend the move but could not order it.
