MOVES LIKE JAGGER'S: As previously reported, will.i.am's "T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)," featuring Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez, bounds onto the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 36.

The trio premiered the first single from will.i.am's forthcoming album "#willpower" (Jagger via video) during the American Music Awards, broadcast Nov. 20 on ABC.

As Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," featuring Christina Aguilera, also a highlight of the night's festivities, rebounds 6-4, Jagger, thus, becomes the latest icon to chart a Hot 100 hit while simultaneously being feted in another.

Considering that the elite likes of the Beatles and Elvis Presley have previously moved like Jagger into both the chart's title and artist columns in the same week, Jagger adds another feat to his already legendary chart history.

"When I read that Mick Jagger is back in the Hot 100's top 40 as an artist while 'Moves Like Jagger' is still in the top 10, it reminded me of some of my favorite 'American Top 40' stories," he notes by e-mail.

"I remember when a song whose title mentioned an artist would chart while the artist named in that song was also in the top 40, Casey Kasem would cite songs like the Carefrees' 'We Love You Beatles' having charted alongside several Beatles hits in 1964.

"That's not all: Ronnie McDowell's 1977 Elvis Presley tribute 'The King Is Gone' shared space in the top 40 with Presley's 'Way Down'; Rick Springfield's 1984 No. 27 hit 'Bruce' charted at the same time as Bruce Springsteen's 'Born in the U.S.A.'; and, ABC's 1987 ode to Smokey Robinson, 'When Smokey Sings,' was on the countdown with Robinson's 'One Heartbeat.'

"But, wait, there's more," adds Feldman. " Weird Al Yankovic scaled the Hot 100's top 40 in 1992 with 'Smells Like Nirvana' while Nirvana was in the region with 'Come As You Are.'

"If you include the entire Hot 100, other such cases include Scritti Politti reaching the Hot 100 in 1986 with 'Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin)' as the Queen of Soul was entering the top 40 with 'Another Night.'

"Just five years ago, Taylor Swift was approaching a No. 40 peak with ' Tim McGraw' while the singer she hoped would cause the object of her affection to think of her was in the top 40 with 'My Little Girl.'

"And, Otis Redding made a posthumous featured appearance on the Jay-Z/ Kanye West track 'Otis' earlier this year."

In addition to Redding, another act recently doubled as both artist and part-song title: Alabama added vocals (and a piece of its classic "Mountain Music") to Brad Paisley's "Old Alabama." The song reached No. 38 on the Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Country Songs chart.

In a sense, Jagger already joined the list of acts beloved enough to be mentioned in hit songs more than 46 years ago. While Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" wasn't specifically about the Rolling Stones, it was in the Hot 100's top 20 simultaneously with the band's "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." On the Aug. 28, 1965, chart, the songs even switched positions, as "Like" rolled 16-6 and "Satisfaction" fell 6-16.

"That's a pretty amazing string of chart coincidences," Feldman concludes.

"And, it's all part of what makes following music charts fun."


MORE TO 'LOVE': As she rules the Hot 100 for a fifth week with "We Found Love," featuring Calvin Harris, Rihanna registers her record-extending ninth No. 1 on Pop Songs, where the song rises 3-1.

Crowning the chart in the cut's ninth chart week, Rihanna logs her fastest trip to the top as a lead artist. She also widens her lead for most Pop Songs No. 1s over runners-up Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and P!nk, each with seven.

Rihanna first led Pop Songs with "SOS" the week of May 13, 2006. She banked three toppers in 2008: "Take a Bow," "Disturbia" and T.I.'s "Live Your Life," on which she guested; three last year: "Rude Boy," Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie," for which, like "Life," she provided the chorus' vocals, and "Only Girl (In the World)"; and, "S&M" this April.
