POP AND HIP 'HOP': Astute Chart Beat reader Jonathan Gregas from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, sent the following e-mail earlier this week:

"Dear Gary,

Over the weekend, Katy Perry's 'E.T.,' featuring Kanye West, was atop the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week, while at the U.S. box office 'Hop,' which features the voice of Russell Brand (as the character E.B.), likewise spent a second weekend as the country's top movie.

"Thus, a husband-and-wife team has commanded both rankings simultaneously for two weekends running.

Mabuhay!"

While such double domination - which Perry extends courtesy of a third week atop the Hot 100 - is impressive, it's actually not even the first time that Perry and Brand have shared top honors concurrently in their respective fields.

Last July, Perry was amid a six-week Hot 100 reign with "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg, while "Despicable Me," in which Brand voices the character Dr. Nefario, was the No. 1 film.

The pair did not marry, however, until  Oct. 23, 2010, making the twosome's current Hot 100 and big screen supremacy, respectively, Perry's and Brand's first as husband and wife.

In recent years, other such double-threat dynamic duos have fallen just shy of the achievement.

According to Box Office Mojo, "Obsessed," starring Beyonce, was the top U.S. movie the weekend of April 24-26, 2009. Her reign preceded by seven months that of her husband Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind," with Alicia Keys, on the Hot 100, which began a five-week rule Nov. 28, 2009.

In 2008, Chris Martin's band Coldplay topped the Hot 100 the week of June 28, with "Viva La Vida." The song's domination narrowly missed coinciding with that of "Iron Man" at the box office. The film, starring Martin's wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, was the top movie the weekends ending May 4 and 11, 2008.

An additional movie-related note about Perry's current hit:

While "E.T." tops the Hot 100, the original Broadway cast recording of "Priscilla: Queen of the Desert" does the same on Cast Albums, where it bows at No. 1. The musical is based on the 1994 Australian film "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," written and directed by Stephan Elliott.

Thus, what we learned in 1982 holds true today: whatever "E.T." does, Elliott must, too.

LUCKY NUMBER: Robbie Robertson logs the highest-charting album of his solo career on the Billboard 200, as "How to Become Clairvoyant" arrives at No. 13.

The set bests the No. 38 peak of his self-titled 1987 solo debut release. (The album contained the original version of "Broken Arrow." As covered by Rod Stewart, the song reached No. 20 on the Hot 100 in 1992).

As a member of the Band, Robertson enjoyed six trips to the Billboard 200's top 10, highlighted Bob Dylan's "Planet Waves," featuring the Band. The album spent four weeks at No. 1 in 1974.
